Endangered Animals: Sumatran Tiger

The Sumatran tiger lives in the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Less than 400 Sumatran tigers live today. In 1987, experts estimated the population of Sumatran tigers at 1,000. They weight around 165-308 pounds. They live at tropical broadleaf evergreen forests, freshwater swamp forests and peat swamps. They are the smallest surviving tiger subspecies and there are only 400 left……..So let’s save the animals!!!

Endangered Animals: Javan Blue-banded Kingfisher

Javan Blue-banded Kingfisher is a bird in the kingfisher family found in the Javan island of Indonesia. Locals call it the Raja Udang Kalung-biru. Ranking top 4 in the most endangered animals in Indonesia, it is blue in colour and hunts lizard. They are classified as Critically endangered and it is because of habitat annihilation. Fun fact: There are only up to 249 and counting left. So let’s save the Animals.

Endangered Animals: Sulawesi Forest Turtle

Sulawesi Forest turtles has a scientific name of Leucocephalon yuwonoi. This is the most enigmatic and poorly known turtles. Only few conservation centers observed about these critically endangered animals. Mentioned in their names, they come from Sulawesi or Celebes in Indonesia. Firstly purchased by locals in 1980s, sold to China during 1990s, and formally described during the 1995. They are less studied and scientists are finding more turtles to observe, just that sadly they’re not easily found even in their predicted habitats. These are included in the grave international conservation concern……So let’s save the animals!!

Endangered Animals: Irrawaddy Dolphin/ Pesut/ Mahakam River Dolphin

The Mahakam River dolphin, locally named Pesut Mahakam, is the symbol of East Kalimantan province. The pesut is genetically unique, which distinguishes it from other Irrawaddy dolphins both within and outside Indonesia. They are mostly found alone 200km section of the Mahakam River. Since 2009, the habitat has declined substantially…..So let’s save the animals!!!

Endangered Animals: Indonesian Rhinos

The Javan Rhino isn’t just an ordinary rhino, it is actually the  most endangered rhino species. They are classified as CRITICALLY ENDANGERED. There are only about 60-70 left, in captivity and in the wild. The local name for this creature is Badak Jawa. It stands at 4.6-5.8 feet, and it weighs at 900 to 2000 kilograms. the Sumatran Rhino, it is the smallest of the rhinoceroses and it is the only Asian Rhino with two horns. It’s population is 80 rhinoceroses. It stands at 3.3-5 feet and weighs 600 to 900 kilograms. As you can see, there are only very few left…So let us save the animals!!!

Welcome to PEANUT!

PEANUT is a website to help animals. (Especially, endangered animals) This website will have information about these animals. It will also have website links for charities for you to donate to and animal shelters for you to adopt homeless animals. This website is also run by kids (age 12). There will also be drawings of our very own “Mr Peanut” defending animals from the villain “Cashew Man” who wants to take the DNA of the endangered Animals for his Frozen Zoo, not knowing that it will kill them.(Drawings by Adrian Daniel Suhenda)
